Very Cool August 12, 2010 Lorraine M. Callahan (merritt island, florida) This pod looks great on my bike and everyone wants to know where I got it (Amazon). I do like it but it has a few design flaws. Both latches broke the first week I got it and the lock and key could be a lot better. I've had issues with the lock, a little WD40 helped somewhat. I like to pack a small thermal cooler when I ride so the pod is great for storing my Coleman while I'm away from the bike. I also use it to store my Ulock and cable chain while I'm riding. It's a nice accessory but far from perfect.
Store my stuff August 11, 2009 Eugene P. Danko (Williamsburg, Va.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Product allows me to store my stuff on my bike rack. The Swagman holds ALL the items I need helmet, water, pullover, etc and it locks. It is lighweight and durable. Delivery time was fast and the price was right
Mostly good July 25, 2009 R. Schell (New Jersey, USA) I commute by bike all year long. I need to carry spare parts, tools, rain gear, overshoes, etc., to be prepared for all weather conditions and emergencies. The regular trunk bags, even the larger ones, just didn't cut it. They're either too small or they get floppy when not stuffed or they leak in heavy rain. I was using a combo of a trunk bag and Nashbar Townie basket. I really wanted a more elegant solution that didn't leave stuff hanging off my bike. The Whee Pod does the trick. It's bigger than any trunk bag, rigid, waterproof, lockable, firmly attached and streamlined. I like it! The only negatives are that it is thin plastic and the lock is flimsy and engages a tiny little plastic tab. This is not high security - just enough to discourage casual tampering with your stuff. The other issue is that mine didn't come with mounting hardware. It was simple enough to cut and drill a few metal plates and bolt it on, plus my mounting is probably way better than OEM if their's is plastic. I also need to find a way to attach a blinky taillight (most trunk bags have a loop and this does not). For the price, this thing is a bargain and I don't mind spending a bit of time to customize it for my needs. I hope the thin plastic holds up over time.
Does The Job and For a Great Price! June 27, 2009 P. Reamer (Honolulu, HI) I bought the swagman whee pod rear bike carrier with the Topeak rack as suggested as frequently purchased together. As far as the whee pod bike carrier goes it met all of my expectations. It seems pretty durable, it was fairly easy to install, the price was unbeatable. You have to adjust the pod on the back of the rack so the the holes inside the pod line-up between the open spaces on your rack. That was the most difficult part about installing this item. Once you figured out how to position the pod and how far away your rack needs to be from your seat (in order to open the pod) it worked great. I rode my bike to work one day after the pod was installed. I was very pleased. I didn't have to wear a backpack yet was able to lug all of my stuff with me (such freedom and made for nicer ride). I had a place for my purse, windbreaker, and tire pump. When I got to work I put my helmet in the pod and locked it up with my water bottle. I am going to buy two more pods for our other bikes. Note: the inside of the pod is not lined with anything; its just hard plastic. You might want to line the inside with foam so things don't roll around in there or make a lot of noise when you are riding. I attached a pic of my bicycle it's the light blue one.
GMarkland June 4, 2009 Grady Markland (Grand Forks BC) A good dry lockable place to put a few things. Great for a bag of groceries. I keep pump and tools there. I too had the plastic latch clips fly off and am looking for a replacement.
